This Is Our Story
The Charleston Tour Association was first founded in 1997 as a non-profit organization with a membership of professionals who are knowledgeable about Charleston and are dedicated to sharing its history with visitors. Members include tour guides, tour operators, tour planners, docents, museums, and historical sites. In 2018, the Charleston Tour Association founded the Palmetto Guild with the cooperative support of the Charleston Visitors Bureau to ensure all of our guides have demonstrated proficiency of an exam administered by the City of Charleston.

We stay ahead of the issues that have the potential to have effect in our city. We are always first and foremost advocates of the preservation movement so that Charleston can continue to be a historical oasis for generations to come.
Continuing Education
